Widget, Amazon's prototype mascot

When the Prototype Security Team came to us to design an online course for them they weren't looking for a mascot. But due to Widget's popularity with their audience he's been in at least half a dozen courses since the first course we made in 2020.

The original idea behind Widget is that we wanted the program participant to walk away from the course feeling like the prototype in their hand was precious and needed to be cared for. What better way to do that, than to create a personified prototype that's cute and fun, and something you'd want to look after.

The fact that Widget's face is a screen allows us a range of expression beyond what the human face is capable of. We can play with common digital status icons that when paired with the gestures of his limbs really get the message across in a unique way.
